Second Guessing

counting the seconds
minutes and hours
I’m all sixes and sevens
distracted and abstracted
trying to put 2 and 2 together
with fingers and toes
it still doesn’t add up
running to
catch 22
trains or buses or thoughts
second guessing
the meanings of your smile
but I’m behind the 8 ball
as you take the fifth
once again
