An oddly auspicious confluence of events-
three padlocks on the road,
a black cat crossing my path,
three large black crows,
flying,
leading me all the way to our door,
an owl
peering from the ledge into the bedroom window,
backlit by the waning gibbous moon.
An intimate conversation
at the bar. She a sweet acquaintance,
shyly telling me of the healer
that drew the demon snake from her breast.
He held it out for her to see,
a glimpse of the shadow of a serpent,
drifting into dust motes swirling out the open window
into the moonless night.
The angel leaning on the lamppost
in a good friend’s poem
From writings of another poet,
a triad of angels watching from a hayloft.
Signs and wonders,
the rending of fabric,
the anticipation of a visit,
the expectation
of another
conversation with the angel,
the sound of wings,
an acclamation of doves,
a rapture.
This is wonderful… I love how much you wove into these words, I love the way you pay attention.
Ah.. with an open heart and mind in balance of soul.. does come the spirit of signs.. in all symbols that flow.. the synchronicity of all things let go.. can lead a human to magic never before unknown..:)
I don’t even know where to start with this one! it pulls you along and every bit of it is stunning 🙂
WOW!!!!!!!! This is STELLAR! I adore every single word. I wish I had written it! I must read it a few times more to really milk every bit of meaning out of it. No signs or portents happening at this end….just tiredness……….so I enjoyed them vicariously through your words. My fave of yours. Definitely.
p.s. you must read this to your mother!
Was pretty sure you would love this, Sherry! So happy you did! thanks!
Beautiful use of metaphors – and lovely narrative. Enjoyed your piece.
how cool is that!!
love all the images… the mystery…the symbols…
fav part…
The angel leaning on the lamppost
in a good friend’s poem…
For me, signs have messages. So many good omens – they are messengers.
A rapture indeed – lovely fresh and seamless piece Kathleen – thanks for the pleasure it bought me… With Best Wishes Scott
I shudder at the image of a demon snake being drawn from the breast, but better than it being left there, I suppose!!!
I really like the way you have written this, all of the details you have mentioned, and how you wove them together to give them meaning! One senses there is a deeper story here.
There is magic in your verses Kathleen ~ I can imagine excitement over an impending visit, and having intimate conversations with friends ~ The signs are all around us, it just depends if we allow them to our door ~
So lovely and dreamlike, a tone of magical realism. The stanza with the demon snake is sighingly excellent. I love, too, how the crows and black cat are “oddly auspicious.”
Sometimes just those little signs become a story.. Like the connecting dots we did as kids, but without the numbers it could be entirely different. Love the dark signs in the first part.
So many signs and wonders! Many times, I think we make our own path, but we do have to choose which sign to follow. So many mysteries in these words!
It’s always the question, when to believe isn’t it, when one should accept, and when one should fear.
