The rains come
and go,
just like you would know.
The sun rises and sets,
sparking color across the sky.
There are bird songs
and dragonflies
and apple trees
and brambles
of blackberries draped
on wire fences.
Roses bloom in the graveyard,
dipping their heads on the stones.
And honeysuckle confounds the bees
dancing for their supper.
The constellations drift
across the deep blue sky
as the bright planets
move from evening to morning,
day to week,
month to year.
There are
wars and rumors of wars,
plagues and disasters-
the rich just get richer
and the rest of us-
we do what we always have done
from the beginning of time.
We love and help,
feed and clothe,
take care of our own
and those that have no one else,
we take care of them too.
And the rains,
they come
and go-
they come and go.
.Aww, life goes on and we can still be human….it is all up to us! Very nice.
Yes, nice thoughts here; we just need to tip the scales in the more positive direction!
So true.. as i look out my back window and step outside into nature’s ways aWay from the city.. country life comes true.. that forgets all the toils and troubles that real human witches and warlocks cook up to brew.. this illusion.. this human nightmare.. is never true.. whEre Birds fly free.. Squirrels frolic.. and Butterflies and BEES sing.. and float.. wHere i dance step too.. in the sands of MOTHER NATURE TRUE! simply alive and FREE!..:)
It is the everlasting cycle. 🙂
Nice thoughts here. I join you in the hope that our goodness will always survive. Good writing.
life will continue as we will kill & heal…sigh…only if we could do without war but that is not to be it seems…nice lines…
I can see how this might be a comforting view of the future – that some things never change. But then you mention the good and the bad together and the revolutionary part of me is saying: ‘But why can’t we change some of the bad, unjust things?’ A poem filled with resignation, I thought. And also reassurance.
I hope it is not a poem of resignation rather one of reassurance in natures resilience as well as our own. I hope no matter the technologies and advances of the future, we will still enjoy each other as well as the beauty of natures continuing creation. Thanks!
Whew. A relief to imagine normalcy, tho I would hope we could spread the wealth around a little. The repeated image of rain is mighty peaceful.
I like how some things will not change, inspite of us in this exhausting race to keep “progressing”. Lovely take and very very real!
nice to think that some things won’t change too much!
There are
wars and rumors of wars,
plagues and disasters-
the rich just get richer
and the rest of us-
just like today… I honestly don’t think much will be different in the future.
The rain still falls and we still take care of our own. And nature still runs its courses…..this is a very comforting and loving view of the future. It was a true delight.
The rains will come & go, in the past and in the future ~ I love the wisdom that some things never change but that we love and help and take care of others ~ The goodness and kindness here lifts me up and makes me optimistic of the future ~ Thanks Kathleen ~
Oh how I LOVE this. A vision of the future as comforting as the warmth of today. After some of us scared ourselves over our projections, it is sweet relief to read your words. I especially love the bees dancing for their supper. Adorable.
You have given great rhythm and atmosphere to you poem, Kathleen. Things seem not to have changed all that much. Yet the constant rain sounds a bit ominous.
Thank you, Gabriella, so appreciate your kind words
I like the unchangeable of the world.. maybe nature is so much larger than what humans are… Really think you and Patricia’s thoughts where similar.. I love the thought that something just remain the same.
Nature, no matter what we humans do to impact her, adapts. Thanks, Bjorn!
Ah, the wars and rumors of wars. So was it in the past, is it in the present, and undoubtedly will be in the future. And the rains come and go, metaphorically as well as not!
We love and help,
feed and clothe,
take care of our own
and those that have no one else…. you know… i loved that part esp. – and if we do this in the future still, i’m good with it
Me too! Thanks, Claudia
LOL… i think we sat in the same room writing today
I think so too – smiles
so the world has not changed much….though if the wars and rumors of wars keep coming
perhaps hope is not too far away….but until then, we help, love and feed the sheep….smiles.
I was thinking what someone 100 years ago would find similar to our world today and with all the huge changes of our future, the rain still falls.
