Scribed across the trail,
cuneiform tablets,
translations of ancient runes
scratched across the winter path-
the hieroglyphics of bird tracks.
Smudged and spotted,
the ancient ivory parchment reveals
the deepest snows
of the long winters day.
Delicately drawn lines of gold
etched on each twig and stem-
winters bones
illuminated by the sun.
Such pretty birds…I like ‘hieroglyphics of bird tracks’ very much and also ‘ancient ivory parchment’ that chimes with the title. Lovely work.
Love this part: the ancient ivory parchment reveals
the deepest snows
of the long winters day.
Great shot too ~ The icy background makes me feel colder than ever ~
I love “winter’s bones”….and the photo is stunning.
Just Beautiful……
How do you see these things? I look at it too and could never describe it the way you do. I just love how the words play together and create such a wonderful image.
Nancy
lovely! 🙂 I envy you your winter visitors – we almost never see cardinals out here
