from a distance
there is no awareness of waters course
the underground rivers
and springs that feed
the man created lake
filled with life unseen
unless caught
by hook or by crook
doors windows and walls
stand atlantis-like
in the cold murky depths
sunken roads
long forgotten
lead to submerged villages
peopled with old memories
and rust
lives of longings
dreams
loves
deaths
all below the surface
reaching to the world
of sunlight
swimming
with the brim and catfish
Nicely done.
Very cool, well done!
wonderful metaphor, Kathleen 🙂 hope you have a fabulous week!
Beautiful writing…and yes there is much beneath the surface. Lovely!
I specially like the ending lines, reaching to the world of sunlight ~ Gorgeous words and picture K ~
Interesting perspective here..and you are in the Ozarks…never been…your vision goes beyond the immediate scene for sure..
“doors windows and walls

These words me so much a place very close to my home. When Quabbin Reservoir was created, just north of me here in MA, four towns were submerged. I still wonder of the roads that roam deep under the water. Fascinating to ponder not only what was gained, but what was lost.
Oops. Should be “These words ‘remind’ me…” dropped a word, sorry.
Gorgeous… so much resides just below the surface.. sometimes it bobs up by hook or by crook.
Oh the thoughts of what we hide with those dams we create in the name of progress.. really interesting paralells to an Atlantis.. and what a nice view you have.
So much definitely lies below the surface – both objectively and subjectively. Your poem makes me think.
So much beneath the surface we never see other than through the poet’s perceptive eye…this is very fine writing.
all below the surface
reaching to the world
of sunlight…
…,reaching to the world of sunlight…I like that…alot.
some of the stuff you cant see under that surface…there is a whole group of houses under a lake near here…divers go down and swim around…its where they increased the lake volume and left the old places…and of course there are cars and…
A Lovely Image Painted with words. Thank You for brightening my day 🙂
i like how the view led you so beyond the visible…cool on atlantis…we once had to write in school about it… i think our soul reflects beautifully in the water
