you seem to be patient with me
and mostly kind
the days linger and hands move slowly
from dawns light tick tocking till dusk
august’s dust never formed
and pulled by tides
or man
the rains fell and washed
all our spring sins away
hands washed clean
rinsed thoroughly with downpours
and tarnished clouds
held still by thunder
or is it your hands held the thunder
and then the rains came
I notice your hands
and the clock face
as it tick tocks to autumn’s storms
patiently
and mostly kind
I read a lot of consolation in the metaphors for early fall. Contrasting to the sins of spring. Beautiful
There’s something beautiful about rain when you don’t expect it. Almost like a gift that you forgot you were supposed to get… beautiful poem!

My August rains began in July and with the downpours, I believe that all sins are cleansed. Beautiful work.
Simply beautiful, k :))
this is like reading the hands of time. i love it.
Very effective use of the weather in Summer but no to autumn yet…too soon ~ I can bear the rains though with some thunder ~
smiles…i like the rain falling and washing away all the spring sins…and hands that are patient and kind…both time…and those that we choose to spend ours with as well….
Patient and usually kind….really like how you repeated the phrase at the end. I definitely could feel August in this poem. Loved the images.
this one will stick with me tonight…like the ticking of the clock. thank you for sharing it with us.
Glorious writing.
i like the relationship between the clock face and the hands, and the word play there

Mmm, not quite sure about what is interpretation and what is reality. Suspect ulterior motives here… Just joking, it’s a lovely poem, feels very well loved and protected.
I love tarnished clouds…and him holding the thunder. Beautifully penned.
thank you so much – K
Subtle personification very well executed, excellent writing!
Thank you for your kind words – K
I like dusk and dust and spring washing away our sins. Funny, a few years ago I wrote a poem called August Rust! http://www.looseleafnotes.com/2007/08/august-rust/
Colleen – love your poem – got me in an autumn state of mind! Thanks – K
there’s so much magic and feeling in this…esp. the part with him, holding the thunder and noticing his hands… moves me deeply
high praise, claudia – thanks so much – K
I liked the idea of August’s dust being some sort of sediment of life’s journey–delightful. Thank you.
