Won’t you stay with me until the snow
Lies heavy on the stony ground?
Stay and tell me ancient stories
Of bird wings and soft sounds.
Teach me the ways of burrowing
Of badger and fox, deer and hound.
Tell me the sky is polished turtle shell,
A ceiling of sapphire, curved and round.
The stars only pinpoints of moonglow,
Lost in clouds of the rainbows gown.
And at the first snowflake, I will say,
No, its only dandelion fluff and cottonwood down.
And bitter winter will be forever late
Until vernal warmth comes back around.
Won’t you stay with me until the snow
Lies heavy on the stony ground?
Lovely!
Oh, this one’s beautiful – so poignant and lovely. I especially enjoy “And at the first snowflake, I will say, No, its only dandelion fluff and cottonwood down” That, my friend, is such a resonant line.
Sarah – I am so grateful for your kind words. Thanks so much. K
Nice 🙂
Thanks!
What a lovely poem, so rich in sensory images. I like how the last two lines echo the first two. Super like!
Thanks so much. I don’t feel like I am very good at rhymes or meter, so always a little bashful at posting when I try. You have bolstered my confidence with your kindness! K
Beautiful post.
